Soapmaking Workshop

Sunday, April 22nd
Sunday, October 21st
1:00 am- 4:00 pm
$50 - each session

Nothing beats a good handmade bar of soap for mildness,
incredible lather & saying I care about you and your skin!! Makes a perfect holiday gift that everyone will treasure!

Learn to handcraft cold process & hot process soaps in this easy to follow step-by-step instructional workshop! Better than spa quality, these soaps are moisturizing, long lasting and lather like a moondog!

Cold Process: Using natural vegetable oils, dried herbs and pure botanical oils, you'll assist in the soapmaking process and gain practical knowledge of herbs and aromatherapy. Cold process soap is the "standard" soapmaking technique used by most soapmakers.

Hot Process: Using the same basic recipes as with the cold process soap, hot process soap is cooked in your oven and ready to use as soon as it comes out of the mold. This is a more advanced soap technique, but still straightforward and do-able. AND the soap is mild and lovely to use!

Take home recipes for both processes as well as soaps made during the workshop.

Both processes are simple to do - you can go home and easily make both types of soap on your own. There will be an opportunity to purchase soapmaking supplies, essential oils & more after the workshop. With my 23 years of soapmaking experience, you'll glean more valuable soapmaking information that you ever thought possible!

"In the folklore of many cultures, herbs were hung in the windows, burned, and strewn on the floor to protect families from sickness and to clear the air of bad smells. Before the existence of bacteria and viruses was discovered, illness and disease was blamed on the devil and witchcraft. We now know that the herbs used at that time to repel the "demons" had medicinal properties. They helped repel vermin that carried disease and clear the rooms of bacteria and mold.

Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers used herbs and wild plants in everyday life. Their food was their medicine. When my Dad was young, his grandmother would send him out to gather dandelions in the spring to be cooked with onions, garlic and bacon grease. We know that dandelions are a primo liver healer and immune booster and just the thing to "spring clean" a body after heavy foods eaten in the winter. My great-grandma used the plants available each season to keep her family healthy. Sage, oregano, parsley, thyme, chives, garlic, rosemary are used in cooking to nourish and heal us. Many of the culinary herbs commonly used today are medicinal - anti-fungal, anti-viral and antibacterial, although many have forgotten or have not been taught. Older generations knew what plants healed and nourished. My work is to pass on what was taught to me in faith that the medicine will be shared with future generations."

Suzanne Jordan has presented herbal medicine, wildcrafting, homesteading, natural body care workshops and personally mentored apprentices for over 20 years.

Workshops will be presented at my home in the Skagit Valley of Washington State unless noted. Address will be provided upon registration.
